2016-10-07 / Community Springfield Senior Center news By Heather Hall, Executive Director This past week, the Springfield Senior Center took a trip to Ogunquit, Maine to have lunch at Mike’s Clam Shack and see the Million Dollar Quartet at the Ogunquit Playhouse. There were almost 50 people from the senior center on the trip and it was a wonderful time. The show was enjoyed by many and the lunch was delicious. If you’re interested in seeing what trips are left for the remainder of the year, or interested in voting on trips for the following year, please speak with Heather at the senior center. This upcoming week, on Wednesday, Oct. 12, the Springfield Senior Center will be hosting a informational seminar with John Claflin, Springfield Fire Department captain and paramedic, at 1 p.m. During this class, John will be going over important safety information that we should be keeping in mind as we get older. After the class, we will be having an ice cream social with a bunch of goodies. The activities committee will be meeting on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. to discuss special events for November. If you have any ideas on special events that you would like the activities committee to consider, please let Heather know. Events to Keep in Mind: On Wednesday, Oct. 19, we will be having Nickel Bingo with Roger Newhall and celebrating October Birthdays with Dale O’Brien. On Wednesday, Oct. 26, we will be having our annual Halloween Party at 1 p.m. We will have special guest entertainment at the party and will have a bunch of ghoulish goodies to share. Also, back by popular demand, will be a costume contest with special guest judges doing the judging. The following categories are what the costumes will be judged on: scariest, funniest, most original, most creative and best overall. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each category. If you would like to bring a snack to share for the event, please see the sign-up sheet at the senior center. As a reminder, all events and activities, with the exception of our Ceramics class, are free to anyone 50 or older. We strive to offer many classes at our senior center that many people can participate in and hope to make everything as affordable as possible. If you have an idea for a class that you would like to see at the senior center, please speak with Heather. If you have any questions on any of the information provided above, please speak with Heather. Heather can be reached by phone at (802) 885-3933 or by email at heatherhallssc@gmail.com.
