Video: It's time for a heart-to-heart

From a former liberal to *a lot of* the current ones...it's time for a heart-to-heart. I am not a Trump supporter by choice or default. I'm also not a Republican. – Carey Wedler

So this is what happens when the government shuts down the Occupy movement overnight in all the cities across America: The occupiers scatter like quicksilver and pop up to remind us that we need to make things better by ourselves.

  2. The Occupy movement fell apart because it had no leadership, and was thoroughly uncoordinated. That, and the weather got cold. To bad, really, it was nice to see people standing up for something worthwhile for a change. I hope the anti-Trump people don't make the same mistakes. Movements require leaders!

  3. The "pop-ups" are opposed to improvement. They're throwing hissy fits because they fear being left further behind in a meritocracy where they no longer have the power of government to drag everyone else down to their sad level. Their dystopian dream is dissolving.

    1. Meritocracy . . . . that's a good one.

    2. Oh, right. Forgot you were a union guy who finds the concept of merit offensive.

    3. Funny, from what I can see it's the Tea Party/Trump people who can't keep up with a more technologically advanced society that are dragging people down to their level; the level of the uneducated redneck.

Re: "meritocracy." This is what it really is: I picked this up off the Internet years ago. Attribution unknown at this time, but you can track it down.

"Anyhow, Prof. Katznelson described a lunch he had with Irving Kristol back either during the first Bush administration.

"The talk turned to William Kristol, then Dan Quayle's chief of staff, and how he got his start in politics.

"Irving recalled how he talked to his friend Harvey Mansfield at Harvard, who secured William a place there as both an undergrad and graduate student; how he talked to Pat Moynihan, then Nixon's domestic policy adviser, and got William an internship at The White House; how he talked to friends at the RNC and secured a job for William after he got his Harvard Ph.D.; and how he arranged with still more friends for William to teach at UPenn and the Kennedy School of Government.

"With that, Prof. Katznelson recalled, he then asked Irving what he thought of affirmative action. "I oppose it", Irving replied. "It subverts meritocracy."

    1. Dan Quayle's chief of staff! Do you suppose he was responsible for those 'Quayle-isms'?

    3. Chuck's quote, as best as I can find, appears to be the recollection of a commenter on a blog named Harry Hopkins. I didn't find any more about Mr. Hopkins.

"Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored."

How far did your father get you helped up the ladder, 11:21? He didn't? Well, sort of a shame that William Kristol makes about six times what you do...
