10 car crash on Rt 103 in Rockingham

A section of Rt 103 icing up after a brief period of rain is responsible for a 10 car accident in Rockingham. When state police arrived at the scene near the Vermont Country Store, vehicles were either off the road or unable to travel. Traffic was blocked for over an hour.

There were also cars off the road on I-91 near Exit 6 and the Exit 6 ramps were iced over. There were multiple vehicles stuck in the middle of Route 9 in Marlboro.

T A winter mix of precipitation was expected late in the afternoon, but temperatures expected to rise just above freezing by mid evening turning any further precipitation into plain rain. Below freezing ground temperatures will lag behind the warm up so some glazing is still possible in some areas. Overall precipitation amounts will be light with under one half inch of rain.

For Tuesday, A chance of rain before 10am, then a slight chance of showers between 10am and noon. The afternoon will start as cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 34 by 5pm.

  1. Dangerous spot, that Chinese Country Store, lots of flatlanders put out in front of traffic on 103. Have to get to the ski hill as fast as they can. PS; Very few items in there are made in Vermont.

  2. Just because you have $1,500 worth of tires on your Cadillac does not mean you can go 60 MPH on ice!

    2. U got the blue plate specials and the mass holes plus a few jerseys and apple heads all in a rush to get to the hill or back the flat lands to watch the game on Sunday. Will pass u on the right without hesitation. But they bring lots of mula here to spend. Maybe they should be routed thru SF instead so they can stop on main street to spend some of it.

    3. Better fix it up first; people with "moolah" don't want to hang with druggies, welfare cases and scroungy-looking yahoos! (Sorry, folks but it's true!)

    4. I'll say something else; viewing people who were not born and raised here as "flatlanders" who are nothing more than cash cows to be milked is the reason why few people stop here, and why many who do, soon leave. You may clip us for some chump change, but all you'll be in the end is a crumbling town full of losers.

    5. Actually I am from Michigan. Lived here near SF for 30 years, worked at one of the shops for 10 until they closed. Close to retirement, ya right, but find so called flatlanders to be rude. Think they own VT. Have some that have camps up on the hill next to our house, think they would stop and say hi. Now way, they just speed by the house and up the hill they go, noses in the air. By the way I have lived in CT...never again.

    6. Well, I'm also from the Midwest (what most people consider the "flatlands") so tell me, when exactly did you stop being a "flatlander?" Is there a geographic boundary line that separates "flatlanders" from everyone else? Maybe the state border? Or is driving a nice car all that is required? As one who comes from a part of the country that is indeed FLAT, I can only assume that native Vermonters think I'm one of those rude, ignorant, blasphemously wealthy, Cadillac driving traffic menaces that plagues the highways and byways of Almighty Vermont! (I'm none of those.) Seriously, being blamed for everything gets old really fast. You come frome the same part of America I do, you of all people should know better! I can only guess, but I'll bet folks around here don't care to much for being called hicks or hillbillies!

    7. The part of MI is not flat like Kansas, it has some good ski hills (certainly not as tall as here). 800 foot elevations and rough terrain. Difficult to get to from "anywhere". Much more rural than VT. The nearest fast food place is 1.5 hrs away to give you and idea. Now living close to 103 I see those "me me" people all the time. If you want SF to benefit, get some business like the (country store) there that will lure them in. There is more that one way to Okemo. This blog is about car crashes on 103 and I bet most if not all were "FLATLANDERS" driving like idiots. We call them cidiots (city idiots) back in rural Midwest.
Frankly before I moved here I never heard the term "flatlander", I was taught this by Vermonters. I remember going to the personal office for the first time at the place in SF where I was beginning my job and the HR lady noticed I had just moved from CT, and guess what she said to me..Oh you are a "flatlander". Until that day I never heard the term. Not sure where Chuck is from not that it matters to me. Google Mt Bohemia for some good pictures of Midwest Flatland skiing.

    8. I could really care less how hilly the terrain was where you were born. Comments like yours represent the worst sort of provincial, HICK prejudice that does nothing to improve the negative reputation that rural Americans have. Maybe the "flatlanders" who show such contempt for you and your kind do so because we know you so well. THERE ARE REDNECKS IN THE MIDWEST, TOO! You can run us out of town with your ignorance, but you'll be left with only yourselves, and from what I can see, that hasn't been working too well for you. WE DIDN'T CREATE THE POVERTY AND SQUALOR AROUND HERE, YOU DID!!!!!!!!

2:41, please remember that quite a few people who comment here do so as an alternative to beating up their spouses and kids. Beating up on "flatlanders" might be hard on us, but we have to remind ourselves we're part of their therapy...
