Herald retrenches as part of staff, payment overhaul

A paywall is days from being reinstalled for readers of the Rutland Herald, where a consolidation of news operations is underway. The two Herald reporters in southern Vermont will be reassigned to cover Rutland County.

  1. RE: "The two papers have been losing readers in their hometown communities" (Steven Pappas)

Fact is, the RH has lost significant readership in every market. What Pappas is too stupid to comprehend is RH's chronic maligning of conservative values has disenfranchised readership its potential advertisers most needed to reach. Without advertising dollars, there is no RH.

The most insignificant, gay news makes the front page. Self-ordained climate "scientists" get free publicity. Smallner was allowed to fuel the propaganda machine leading to Vermont Yankee's demise along with 600 jobs. Refugee resettlement promoters were given non stop coverage. Hardy an issue I see without a Danziger cartoon insulting Trump voters or gun owners. Holy crap, if the same barbs were aimed at queers or liberals there would be protests in the streets.

But here's the thing Pappas, conservatives make it count in the voting both and with our wallets. May want to look into printing for the Advocate franchise.

  2. "Retrenches" is a euphemism for "begins digging its grave". The Herald is succumbing to its own misguided pursuits of political agendas rather than objectively reporting the news to its Vermont customers. It's editorial pages and slanted reporting content became predisposed to the advancement of leftist ideology and a suffocating blanket of ever more government. And like most of the newspaper industry ologopoly, it became a slave to the political masters it strived to serve and became deaf and blind to the broader spectrum of the marketplace. Those of us who desire honesty and objectivity in news reporting are not at all surprised or disappointed to watch the Rutland Herald shrivel up and wither away. It has dug its own grave and will soon be erecting its grave marker behind a "pay wall" that will double as a cemetery fence. RIP RH!
