Head coach Greg Balch said Windsor moved the ball well on both the ground and through the air, and “got fortunate” with an early turnover following a mistake from Springfield, putting the Yellow Jackets onto an early lead. “It allowed us to stick with our game plan,” Balch said. Quarterback Seth Balch had a good game, throwing a couple touchdown passes as well as running a couple in. Robert Slocum, Trevor Worrall, Jake Tucker and Dakota Page also had good performances offensively, while Ben Meagher had a good game on defense, making several tackles for negative yards against the Cosmos. Windsor heads to Bristol Friday for a match against Mt. Abraham at 7 p.m. Balch said getting on terms with the opposing team’s offensive line will be a big focus heading into Friday’s game. “They’ve got a big offensive line. We need to be able to stand up to that,” Balch said. Bellows Falls girls soccer drops opening game to Springfield BELLOWS FALLS — The lady Terriers lost on home turf in what was a determined battle against the Cosmos Saturday. The Bellows Falls girls soccer team took the lead at 11 minutes in with a goal courtesy of Amyra Teresa from close range. Springfield responded at the 32nd minute with a goal from Jenna Veysey to end the half. Twelve minutes into the second half Veysey scored unassisted from 20 years, and in the 70th minute, Julianna Alberto-Levings made it 3-1 Springfield. Teresa was able to respond for the Terriers with another goal in the 72nd minute of play, but her goal and the ensuing onslaught against the Springfield goaltender for the last seven minutes wasn’t enough to take the win away from Springfield. Saturday’s match left the Terriers 0-1 ahead of their match on the road against Twin Valley on Wednesday. Springfield, now 1-0 after what was both teams’ opening round, faces off against Randolph on the road Tuesday.
