2017-10-18 / Front Page Church to offer ‘Beyond the Brownie: Herbal Preps for Medical Cannabis’ SPRINGFIELD — For those who want to learn more about the science behind medical Cannabis, and be empowered to make their own potent and delicious herbal preparations, certified Clinical Herbalist Stephanie Boucher will give a class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct 19 at the Springfield UU church at 21 Fairground Road. The class will cover the basics of Cannabis pharmacology and therapeutics, as well as discuss different methods of using the plant including tinctures, oil extractions, topicals, and edibles. You will also learn how to calculate a safe and effective dose, and the benefits of blending Cannabis with other botanicals. Participants will help make and bring home a hemp-infused salve. Herbal preparations such as this have been key in the apothecaries of healers throughout the ages. They are only newly legal in Vermont and many folks are unaware of the healing, support, and benefits – particularly alleviation of pain – that these herbal treatments can bring. While medical marijuana requires a prescription, CBD (cannabidiol), is an over-the-counter product derived from hemp that has no hallucinogenic properties, is completely legal, and doesn’t require a prescription, all according to a press release from the church. CBD is available at many stores, now including local food coop. The church decided to bring this class here because of a need for concrete, as well as spiritual, help in addressing the pain crisis some people are in. The state of Vermont and the Springfield community in particular are hard hit by the opiate crisis, with people hurting “physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually,” according to the church. The class is co-sponsored by the Springfield UU Church and the Springfield Food Co-op. Advance registration recommended, $20-25 sliding scale. $25 at the door, space permitting. Tickets can be purchased at www.bellwetherbotanicals.com/events. To reserve a space for free childcare, email stephanie@bellwetherbotanicals.com with names, ages, and any special needs.
Caution, the State Police are apt to bust everyone there and the judge will give them a mandatory 5 year prison sentence, unless you can prove you have heroin in your possession, in which case you can just go home.
