  1. Russia interfered with the USA election and the result is a President Trump. This local site has turned into a FAKE NEWS purveyor, fueled by the likes of INFOWARS. I am interested in Springfield VT news, period!

    1. As for Russian interference, you might want to read the recent news, something newer than a year ago.... nothing has been found as to ties with the Trump or Republican teams, but you might want to notice the ties to Clinton, Obama and some other Democrats with regards to Uranium, Mining, Bribes and ties to both Clintons.

Are you saying all of my comments on Hillary and Obama revolving around the Uranium deals are debunked? If so I think someone has been drinking Uranium?

  2. Agree with you Anon. 9:06 PM.....sounds like more BS and deflection to try and steer us away from the real issues our country is facing from such an ineffective (no major legislative wins), inept (a leader who has no clue about government policy), and insensitive (calling a grieving military widow a liar) POTUS.

  3. 9:06 and 9:38 = the clueless leading the blind. Two of Vermont's pathetically naive and misguided liberal slaves.

  4. I agree the clueless leading the blind, all this President cares about is the sovereignty and solvency of this country USA, make America Great Again... after being lead down a path of open boarders and free giveaways to the world...

    1. Just what has Trump DONE to make America great? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I used to live in the South, and I remember all the brainwashed religious fanatics down there. Sadly, that mindless devotion to insanity has found its way North. You Trump supporters will NEVER understand how staggeringly incompetent and dangerous he is, for you are just as demented as any other cult member. You have stood reality on its head, rejecting intelligence and education, and instead celebrate ignorance. I know I'll never convince you of the folly of your ways, I'm only posting as a reminder to you that you are outnumbered at least 4 to 1, and that "taking the country back" will not end well for you. Have a nice day!

  6. Anonymous 8:15 Try Decaffeinated coffee... I know that I feel better about the country and all we stand for now that Trump is in the office than the liberal that was running the country, I know racism was not even a major factor until he got in office... now trump is trying to do something about that, taxes, health care etc but the liberals and life long republicans trying to keep their jobs now are just standing in the way of progress but the longer he is in the office he will get things done... after he gets Iran and N Korea under control another failure of the previous president... notice I don't say his name because he personally moved this country backwards at least 20 years... Trump will make America great again Trump 2020! and Anonymous 9:05 yes Congress and the Senate are 80% of the problem... but with blind Trump Resistance Group (traitors) is the most Un-American thing that has ever hit this country...

  7. LOL....MAGA = Moron(and his) Administration (attempting to) Govern America.
This administration has prioritized corporate cronyism over the American people. Trump has no clue about the meaning of Public Service...he views it as another financial opportunity. He is emotionally immature, intellectually stunted, a man with a trailer trash morality; lacking in ethics, decorum, empathy, intellectual curiosity, diplomacy, and self-restraint. He is motivated by vindictiveness and requires constant adulation.......he is deficient in character. His mind never developed beyond a spoiled child who is unable to cope with any criticism.

They only insult people that deserve it, you know, like our allies, Gold Star families, pregnant war widows, respected members of congress (of both parties), the legitimate press, people of color, and all those other "un-American" believers in democracy!

  9. Forty-three percent of Springfield voters voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 election.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Roughly the same percentage that hold a job and contribute to the economy here. However, an insufficient percentage for retail and technology based enterprises to thrive.

      Delete
    2. No, Chuck, according to City Data, only 29% of Springfield voted for Trump. More than I would have expected from a town that voted 74% for Obama in 2012, but still less than 1/3. I would also expect his current local support to be less, as it is everywhere else. To The Machinist; as far as retail and technology based businesses, retail is probably the only sector that benefits from welfare recipients, as they buy food and other consumable goods like everyone else. You may not like where they get their money, but it is in fact money going into the local economy. Technology-based businesses are independent from any local economy, as they can be based nearly anywhere, and export their goods and services. They do not rely on locals purchasing their products, and never have. And so we have a liberal and a consevative, and NEITHER ONE has their facts straight. Yeah, sounds like America!

    3. From my first hand observations, the only merchants benefiting from the legion on welfare bums and disability scammers are those selling Bud Light, cigarettes, and scratch tickets. Unless of course it's first of the month and prime steaks are on the menu. Our Main Street's vacant store fronts and commercial property sales bear irrefutable testimony of otherwise.

Technology based business are indeed impacted by the local economy. Such business must recruit key, professional, young adults. No one in their right mind seeking to build equity and raise a family would to relocate here.

      Delete
    4. Your "first hand experiences" are based solely on right-wing prejudices, and nothing more. I have been to many stores here, and have NEVER witnessed ANYONE buying booze or cigarettes with food stamps, (which is illegal) and neither have you. Just more self-rightous propeganda from a disgruntled conservative. Are there a lot of problems here? Sure. Are liberals responsible for some of them? You bet. But brutal authoritarianism and supply-side economics are not the solution. For every welfare recipient in this town there are probably a dozen conservative business owners raking in that cash. After all, who do you think OWNS the slum apartments and the stores that sell booze and cigarettes anyway? There's more than enough blame to go around. You're right about one thing; talented, educated people will never come here as long as slumlords and "investors" allow their properties to sit and rot, waiting for the "flatlanders" to come buy them and fix them up. And when these people do show up, being maliciously eyeballed by people who look like rejects from a civil war re-enactment doesn't help either. Yeah, I said it; if you want people with education, talent and money to come here, you'll have to class it up a bit.

    5. Re: "For every welfare recipient in this town there are probably a dozen conservative business owners raking in that cash."

      You're kidding, right?

And as for my experience, EBT card funds are frequently bartered for alcohol, cash, and drugs. Think not? Stop by the U-Turning point or Will Hunter's slums to see any number of shiftless, unemployed bums chain smoking and ask where they got the cigarette money.

      Delete
    6. You make my point well, 8:03; slumlords and crooked businesses are making money off of drug addicts and welfare recipients. (They ARE taking the money, aren't they?) The problem is that the only solution I ever hear from conservatives is the same tired Ayn Rand/supply-side BS that got us here in the first place. And when criticized for ANYTHING, you always divert attention by blaming "bums on welfare." After nearly 40 years, it's really getting old.

Anonymous (your 1:48 post), I don't know where you get your "City Data" from, but the Town of Springfield's reported general election results are:

    CLINTON/KAINE
    Tape 1: 940
    Tape 2: 921
    Total: 1,861

    TRUMP/PENCE
    Tape 1: 813
    Tape 2: 696
    Total: 1,509

    total votes: 1861 + 1509= 3,370

    Now:
To compute Trump percentage of vote: 1,509 divided by 3,370= 0.447, or 44.7% of the vote in the general election. I'm sorry that I was wrong. No need for you to apologize, however! Clearly, the Springfield school system has to be improved....

    2. Chuck, City Data is a website with demographic information on every city and town in America. While I'll admit I was looking at Winsdor county and not Springfield data, you did forget that there were other candidates who got a significant number of votes. As I recall at the time, when figuring ALL the votes cast, Trump got 34%. Not much of a difference, really.

    3. chuck gregory10/26/17, 5:52 PM

Sorry, but even with the 249 votes cast for other candidates, the Springfield town report still shows Trump with 41.7% of the votes cast, quite far from the 29% claimed. It's rather odd that the town didn't report write-in votes, which might reduce that 41.7% a bit, but I don't think it will take it down to 29%.

  14. Trump might have changed what is required to win a presidential election in the future. Three requirements will be..
    1) Have at least a billion dollars
    2) Be a bully, call opponents names, use smoke and mirrors.
    3) Use Fake promises to sucker voters to vote for him or her.

So Fred won't have a chance. (Remember Spread Fred) running Senate.

    1. The following quoted from todays news.............
"Of course, neither Manafort nor Gates have been convicted, nor have any criminal ties to Trump been proven. But let's remember that shady financial practices and criminal connections are a constant theme in the business career of Donald J. Trump. There's the time his father bailed out his struggling casino by illegally buying $3.5 million in chips, or the time the Trump Taj Mahal admitted to violating rules to prevent money laundering, or Trump's many close personal connections to figures in organized crime, or how a former associate helped international fugitives invest money in the United States. Trump's world has long been populated by shady characters, including himself."
