Valentines from VINE

On February 14, VINE Sanctuary staff, supporters, and volunteers will gather to write cards and letters to imprisoned activists and to people who have become vegan while incarcerated. The public is warmly welcomed to join us for vegan treats as we send some sweetness to incarcerated people on Valentine’s Day.

This event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church located at 21 Fairground Road in Springfield. (map)

Can’t make it to Springfield at that time? That’s fine! VINE encourages its supporters elsewhere to hold their own events or just write one letter to one prisoner on Valentine’s day. If you will be hosting your own event, please let us know so that we can share tips and tools with you and also help you publicize your event.

We’ll be writing to vegans who are imprisoned due to their alleged activities on behalf of animals, the environment or social justice as well as to grand jury resisters and other defenders of freedom of speech and freedom of association. We’ll also be sending notes of encouragement to those who have gone vegan while imprisoned.

In addition to providing snacks, VINE will supply writing materials, names and addresses of prisoners, and tips on writing letters to inmates.

All you have to bring is yourself! However, if you would like to bring vegan sweets to share, you certainly would be welcome to do that!

We will be posting letter writing tips and names and addresses of prisoners as the we get closer to Valentines Day. Please do mark yourself as “attending” or “interested” even if you plan to write letters from afar, so that FB will notify you when we post that info.
