On Friday, President Donald Trump pardoned a Navy sailor from Vermont who had taken snapshot images of classified areas inside a submarine, serving a year in federal prison for it.

Kristian Saucier was a machinist’s mate aboard the USS Alexandria when he took the photos. They included images of control panels, a panoramic view of the nuclear reactor compartment and a panel that showed the condition and location of the submarine when the photo was taken.

He was charged after a cellphone he lost was found in 2012 by someone who spotted the photos on it and recognized them as being from a Navy ship.

The FBI investigated and Saucier ultimately pleaded guilty to a felony charge of unauthorized possession and retention of national defense information. He was sentenced to a year in federal prison, 6 months on house arrest, and faces a dishonorable discharge from the military.

Saucier is a native of Arlington, Vermont. He was assigned to a naval base in Connecticut when the phone was discovered.

  1. Great Job Mr Trump for recognizing and American who made a mistake, and clearly meant no harm, the jail time was probably fair, but pardon with no felony record is also fair. Welcome back home Kristian
