Chris Shaban Springfield, Vt - Springfield’s John Stafford had a big day at the plate with a triple, a double and three RBI’s, but it wasn’t enough for the Cosmos as they fell to visiting Leland and Gray 15-7 on Friday. Springfield jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second inning after Stafford blasted a triple to deep centerfield on his first pitch, scoring two runs. The Cosmos lead quickly vanished with Leland and Gray scoring nine runs over the next two innings. Springfield lost despite out-hitting Leland and Gray 8-7. “We have made progress by leaps and bounds since we started the season,” said Springfield head coach Jim Winslow, “I thought we played well enough to win by scoring seven runs… and we will continue to improve. Stafford took the loss on the mound for the Cosmos, going three-innings and allowing six runs and two hits. Adam Stokarski pitched three innings Cosmos, going three-innings, throwing six first-pitch strikes and recording a WHIP of 1.67. He was relieved by Matt Lachapelle. Springfield recorded eight hits in the ballgame. Stafford’s had two, Lachapelle had two and a run-scored, Dyaln Merrow had a single and two runs-scored, and Colin Pinney and Levi Perham each had an RBI-single.
