The play set in North School Recreation Park was found to be cracking last year. It was restored this past week using replacement parts. Peter Budish from Pyramid Construction of Methuen, Mass. did the work, aided by Andy Aldrich (left) of Springfield.
When the playset was purchased with town recreation funds 10 years ago it came with a 50 year warranty. So naturally it was expected to be high enough quality to stay in good condition for that long. Springfield Parks & Rec director Andy Bladyka was able to get the company it was purchased from to make good on the warranty and supply all replacement parts free of charge but not the cost of shipping. The parts are made from recycled plastic but are actually heavier than wood.
