Rolling roadblocks will continue for bridges project

Construction will continue, with occasional rolling roadblocks, for the I-91 Rockingham Bridges 24 North and 24 South project over the Williams River for the week of June 30.

Traffic on I-91 northbound and southbound will be reduced to one lane, with no shoulders within the construction zone. I-91 northbound motorists should use caution and be aware of merging ramp traffic entering the roadway, according to a press release on the project.

I-91 northbound bridge activities from Saturday through noon on Tuesday, July 3 will include continued beam erection on Pier 1 and to Pier 2, erection of a 16,000 pound crane to Abutment 1 - southbound; and truck traffic on Golden Hill Road. Work will resume on Monday, July 9.

The approximate rolling road block schedules, to allow for beam deliveries, is as follows: Saturday, approximately 2:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. southbound for about 10 minutes and approximately 3:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. northbound for about 20 minutes; Sunday, approximately 5 a.m. southbound for approximately 10 minutes, and approximately 6:30 a.m. northbound for about 20 minutes; Monday, approximately 2:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. southbound for approximately 10 minutes and approximately 3:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. northbound for about 20 minutes; and Tuesday, approximately 5 a.m. southbound for approximately 10 minutes, and approximately 6:30 a.m. northbound for about 20 minutes.

Rolling road block times could vary due to unforeseen circumstances. The northbound rolling road blocks also includes the Exit 6 on-ramp. Motorists may want to detour on Route 5 to use the Exit 7 on ramp in Springfield to avoid delays.
