SHS Alumni Association's Annual Banquet

Retired teacher Gary McKenney, the Alumni Association's Guest of Honor for 2018, addressed the people attending the annual banquet held Friday night at the Springfield VFW.

The event was opened with a blessing by Pastor of the Day Malcolm Fowler of the Calvary Baptist Church. After dinner, other business included crowning of the Alumni King & Queen, recognition of scholarship recipients, Valedictorian and Salutatorian.

Then for the first time ever at an Alumni Association banquet, Selectboard members were given an opportunity to address the banquet attendees. Chairman Kristi Morris spoke of Springfield's great past as a machine tool industry center. Then touched on some of the town's current problems before going into various revitalization projects that have either been completed or are being planned. Then Selectboard member Peter MacGillivray added more.

Before ending the evening, there was special recognition of Hall of Fame Recipients for the year. Dr. Paul Temple and Gilbert Whittemore. Many members of their class of 1968 were present to cheer and applaud the awards, standing as a group at the back of the room.
