By Stephen Seitz --   Republican gubernatorial candidate Keith Stern brought his campaign to Cavendish on May 24, where he discussed what was on the minds of area voters.

  1. Stern's campaign motto should be "Forward into the past!" Or "Backwards is beautiful!" I remember visiting my family in the North Woods of Wisconsin. I carelessly flipped a lit cigarette out of the car window, and almost got my ass kicked for doing it by the locals. THEY understood the dangers of brush fires. Some regulations are there for a reason; they protect the rest of us from idiots! A Stern governorship will be a "brushfire" for the state of Vermont!

    1. What the hell are you babbling about? Your liberalism is showing. He's trying for less government and more freedom.

    2. What the hell are YOU babbling about, 3:39? The same simple-minded gibberish about "government" and "freedom" that conservatives always spew? So what if my "liberalism" is showing; take a good look around, there are more liberals in Vermont than conservatives! Besides, you don't have to be a liberal to think Stern and Trump are both nuts! I'll make a prediction: If Stern wins the primary, there'll be a Democrat in the governor's mansion in 2019!

    3. @ 5:16: A Democrat may win the election but your prediction is already technically incorrect. Having "a Democrat in the governor's mansion" would be a neat trick since Vermont doesn't have an official governor's residence.

    4. I stand partially corrected. No governor's residence? Every other state I've lived in had one. THAT'S kind of cheezy! Well, at least it gives conservatives one less thing to gripe about! (Not that it'll stop them!)

    5. Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Arizona don't have an official residence, either.

    6. That's not very many, and I've never lived in any of them. Anyhow, why shouldn't the governor have an official residence? It would be better for security purposes, at least. Just saying!

    7. 5:16.... you are correct, there ARE more liberals than conservatives. I wonder why they are offering people $10,000 to move here? I'm sure it's the phenomenal education system, Ohh wait! It might be the low taxes we have, No? The job market is outstanding....please?
Drugs are everywhere, a lot of people are living off welfare, taxes are crazy and this town is in a downward spiral like a giant toilet flushing.
      Great job liberals, great job.

  2. Forward into the past would be an exponential improvement over the liberals' nearly fulfilled quest of "to oblivion and beyond". Vermont is a failing state thanks to generations of twisted liberal thought that consistemtly holds that government is the only solution . As a result, Vermont has hemmoraged socioeconomically, leading to the latest preposterous liberal solution of offering bribes to attract working people to the state to live. Reagan had it right at just about the time Kunin and the libs really began running Vermont off the rails - Government isn't the solution. Government is the problem. Until Vermonters step up and throw the liberal social engineers out of their cozy little nests in Montpelier, the state will remain in perpetual decay and no amount of financial incentive will be sufficient to bring industrious individuals and their families to the state .

    1. Ok, they're trying to pay people to move here. Why? Because as of right now, there are actually more jobs than people to work them! Sounds like they've been TOO successful! If we could get some of you cheap-ass conservatives to PAY a little better, they'd be coming here in droves! As far as the town going down the toilet, I've seen steady improvement every year! Except for the rednecks who refuse to mow their yards and clean up their trash, it's starting to look pretty good! Reagan had it right? His supply-side economics is what's ruining this country! I've got a better idea; you conservatives move; and take your antiquated, bankrupt ideas with you! GOOD RIDDANCE!

    2. @ 3:03, what part of shrinking and aging population can't you comprehend? Having branded yourself as Springfield's resident, Trump derangement troll your fake news doesn't disappoint.

    3. @3:03, To be eligible, a worker must be a full-time employee for an OUT-OF-STATE business, work primarily from home or a co-working space in Vermont, and become a full-time resident on or after January 1, 2019.
What does "OUT-OF-STATE" business have to do with Vermont having "more jobs than people"? Try getting the facts straight before you spout off.

    4. I wasn't the one spouting off, the Trumpie was. I was simply responding. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!

    5. When you claim the offer to move to Vermont is because there are "more jobs than people," you didn't get the facts straight. That appears to be nothing new for you. Blame it on the "Trumpie" all you want but your response was, as usual, incorrect. You're too busy shouting at the world and trolling to think straight.

    6. I should have known better than to acknowledge ANYTHING a Trump supporter says; ANY truth is in furtherance of a larger lie anyway. Nit-pick all you like, but things are better here than you'd like everyone to believe. I'm not "shouting at the world;" just you, and you only make up about 20% of it. Cry about "liberals" all you like, you'll always be in the minority here.

    7. Things may possibly be better but that isn't what you said. You said, "as of right now, there are actually more jobs than people to work them! Sounds like they've been TOO successful!"

You chose (of course you did) to refer to 9:58's explanation as nitpicking but it isn't. It's factual. If there were more jobs than people to work them, the state of Vermont wouldn't be offering to pay up to $10,000 for people to move to the state but work out of state on a remote basis.

  3. "....there are more jobs than people to work them!" Correct 3:03! THANK YOU PRESIDENT TRUMP!!!!!

    1. Sorry, you can't have it both ways, Trumpies! You can't blame liberals for a bad economy, then praise Trump for a good one! Besides, the unemployment rate here has been lower than the national average for YEARS! The population is aging EVERYWHERE, not just here. Without immigrants from Latin America, we'd be shrinking, too. Face it, no one from Europe or Scandinavia is dumb enough to come here; I have relatives there, and you couldn't pay them to! Why give up better roads, schools, health care, wages, etc? Conservative policies are killing this country! Wake up and join the rest of the world already! As far as Vermont goes, U.S. News (hardly a liberal magazine) just ranked Vermont the 9th best state to live in! Why don't more people come to Springfield? Maybe they read all your negative blog posts! Why do smart, talented people leave? They're probably sick of backward, provincial conservatives like yourselves!

    2. U.S. News is "hardly liberal"? In truth, the magazine has a slight to moderate liberal bias. They often publish factual information but utilize loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favor liberal causes.

    3. Well, if you're far enough to the right, EVERYBODY looks like a liberal! David Gergen was Editor-in-Chief when I last subscribed to the magazine. I suppose they could have shifted leftward since then, but I doubt by very much. Vanity Fair they ain't! I didn't see any "loaded words" in the ranking system, either. Vermont wasn't found to be perfect, but there are far worse places one could live, and I know because I've lived in some of them! If U.S. News leans a little to the left these days, it suits me just fine!

    4. If Gergen was an editor when you last subscribed, you haven't been a subscriber for a long, long time. He left in 1986. He was the "Editor At Large" (not "in Chief") and as such, he contributed content on a semi-regular basis and had very little say in the publication's direction.
During the two years Gergen was there, the owner and Editor In-Chief was (and still is) Mort Zuckerman, a man no one would confuse with anything conservative.

    5. Three mortgage payments left in this tax and spend liberal hell-hole and then across the river I go, EVEN IF I HAVE TO SWIM! Can't wait to sport my new 'Live Free or Die' license plates!

    6. Well, Dave, if it was a conservative magazine, I would have never read it. All I said was it's not liberal. You guys really see the world in a very narrow way; everything is either liberal or conservative. Too bad; concrete thinking is one of the traits of the criminally-minded, as is making big scenes about minor points, 5:01. Sad. 5:58, when you find out NH isn't free, well, you know what you have to do! Well, I'd love to continue beating the dead horse with you all, but I actually have a life. Ciao, wingnuts!
