Steampunk Society awards $1,000 scholarship to Nicholas Sharpe

The Steampunk Society of Vermont recently presented a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM) scholar with a $1,000 scholarship, raised by the Springfield Vermont Steampunk Festival this past September 2017.

This year's recipient is Nicholas Sharpe of North Springfield, Vermont. The criteria included not just majoring in one of the above areas of study, but also to show how the student would bring this degree back to the town of Springfield rather than moving off to other areas of the country. Nicholas will be attending Lincoln Technical Institute in East Windsor, Connecticut, majoring in electrical and renewable technology. Nicholas said his plan is to return to Springfield working for his family business, Sharpe and Sons Electric, LLC starting out as an apprentice and working toward getting his journeyman's license and then his masters license. He plans to then continue working for the family business and to be on the Ascutney Volunteer Fire Department to "help the community."
