Emergency blood donor drive

An American Red Cross blood drive will take place in Springfield, and organizers are putting out the call for more donors, citing urgent need.

The blood drive is scheduled to take place from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22

Springfield Elks Club, 49 Park St., Springfield.

There is an emergency need at this time, according to drive coordinator Sharon Yesman. Many drives have been missed because of weather, fire and floods, she said.

The need is for Type O especially, but all types are needed, according to a press release. New donors are also needed; donors are welcome to bring a friend.

Everyone who comes to donate at this drive will receive a $5 Amazon gift card by email as a "thank you" for helping.

Donors can make an appointment at (800) RedCross or through www.RedCrossblood.org. The website includes a RapidPass option for the day of the drive, to save time.
