Vehicle accident in Weathersfield

It happened at that sharp curve between Downers Four Corners and Amsden village. A dump truck collided with a silver sedan, spilling 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the road.

Vermont State Police from the Westminster Barracks were called to respond to a report of a two vehicle crash located on VT Route 131 and the intersection of Branch Brook Rd, in the Town of Weathersfield.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2014 International tandem dump truck owned by St. Pierre Inc. and driven by Dennis J. Thomson, 63, of Charlestown was traveling westbound on VT Route 131 and crossed the double yellow center on the sharp corner by the intersection of Branch Brook Rd. At that time Ronald Prouty Jr., 46, of Weathersfield was traveling eastbound in his 2014 Toyota Camry around the sharp corner crashing into the dump truck, in Prouty's travel lane.

The accident happened at 8:30 a.m. Weather conditions at the time were clear and dry.

The silver Camry suffered major damage to its front bumper, grill, windshield and driver side wheel. The driver wasn't wearing his seat belt. He was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. The extent of his injuries have not been disclosed.

The dump truck experienced major damage to the driver side front bumper, fender, axle and fuel tank. The driver was wearing his seat belt and suffered no injuries.

The incident quickly became a HAZMAT event as 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway. But very little entered into the Branch Brook due to the fact that the West Weathersfield Fire Department is headquartered literally just around the corner. The Ascutney Fire Department soon joined in to help. The Route 131 road section between Downers Four Corners Amsden School Road was closed to traffic until the clean up was completed and State Police had finished investigating the accident scene.

Thompson has been cited under Vermont Civil Violation Complaint 3321345 T23 VSA 1038 (driving on roadways laned for traffic) and court action in Windsor County is pending.

  1. Snake turns there. I had two close calls today, one a car coming at me surved into my lane and quickly surved back, a young "girl" talking on her cell phone. Another in the plaza, young "girl" busy with her phone almost ran into me. She is lucky I did not follow to where she parked and gave her phone a severe beating. YOU KNOW WHO U R.
