Local Hoop Shoot results

Springfield Elks Lodge 1560 recently held there annual Hoop Shoot for boys and girls, ages 7 to 13. This year was a record turn out compared to years past with 43 young competitors.

Trophy winners at the recent Springfield Elks local Hoop Shoot are shown in photo above L to r; Hailey Mggill, Keeli Stewart, Jacob Blair, Matin Gultekin and Kaiden McCarthy. First place winners in all age groups, boys and girls, will now compete in the Elks Southern District Hoop Shoot at the Springfield High School gym on Jan. 12, 2019 at 10 a.m. Bennington, Brattleboro and Bellows Falls Lodges will be competing against Springfield competitors on that day.

For the girls, the winner in the 8- and 9-year-old group was Payton Austin, in the 10- and 11-year-old group it was Savannah Dezaine, and in the 12- and 13-year-old group it was Molly Tennis. For the boys, winners were Metin Gultekin for 8- and 9-year-olds, Caleb Merrow for the 10- and 11-year-olds, and James Gultekin for the 12- and 13-year-olds. Second place winners for girls included Keeli Stewart for 8- and 9-year-olds, Hailey Magill for 10- and 11-year-olds, and Amelia Murchie in the 12- and 13-year-old age group. For boys, winners included Jacob Blair for the 8- and 9-year-old age group, Kaiden McCarthy for 10- and 11-year-old age group, and Caden Benson for the 12- and13-year-old age group.

The winners at the Elks Southern District Hoop Shoot on Jan. 12 will continue on to compete in the Vermont Elks State Hoop Shoot in Barre, Vermont, on Jan. 26, 2019.
