GMP crews restore power to over 90,000 customers after more than 106,000 lost it

Green Mountain Power crews restored power to more than 90,000 customers as crews continue a days-long battle with challenging conditions. Crews in the areas around Royalton, Springfield, Rutland, Wilmington and Brattleboro are still confronting multiple trees and lines down, often in off-road, back country locations.

First snowstorm of the season

Snow began falling onto the Springfield Shopping Plaza at 11:30 this morning, transforming it into a winter scene by noon. 6 to 12 inches are expected to accumulate before it all ends before dawn.

Storm power outage in Springfield

Green Mountain Power reported 258 without power in Springfield early last evening. Trees were down by Rt 5, approximately 3 miles north of the Charlestown CT River bridge. Responders had power restored by 7 pm.

Sandy brings power outages, school closures to Southern Vermont

As expected, many in Southern Vermont lost power due to Hurricane Sandy on Monday. But those outages seemed to be primarily in the western part of the state, and most emergency responders continued to stand by early Monday evening.

Wild Winter Hits Hard

It's December, and winter has arrived in full force.
The first burst came on the weekend of Dec. 11, when an ice storm hit, knocking power out in thousands of homes.
The American Red Cross opened emergency shelters, including one at Springfield high school.
