And the grand prize winner is...

There was a good turnout for the 58th annual Rotary Club Penny Sale held Saturday night at Riverside school gymnasium with one especially lucky attendee winning thousands of dollars in cash.

David Gaskin won the grand prize of $5,000. The Charlestown, NH senior citizen then had a 1 in 25 chance to double his winnings. But missed choosing from out of the pile of money bags the lucky one. He wasn't seen complaining though. This was the first Penny Sale he had ever gone to.

Over 3 hundred smaller prizes valued between $10 and $250 were given out by random drawing during the course of the three hour event. Local businesses, organizations and individuals donate the prizes for the event.

Peter MacGilvery and Paul Kendall took turns drawing and announcing winning numbers. A crew of school kids relayed prizes to the winners.

The crowd applauded when the shortest girl managed to carry the tallest prize --a rolled up carpet-- halfway across the gym after nearly being tipped over by it a few times along the way

Local Boy Scouts operated a food and drink concession outside the gym.

As always, proceeds from this annual event go to help local causes such as the Family Center.
