Springfield- On SuperBowl Sunday, the CRV Stingrays shined like the Packers. Soundly beating the Peterborough (NH) Wave as the Stingrays swim team scored 408 points to the Waves’ 152. To be fair, the Wave is a much smaller swim club but includes some solid older swimmers. Still, the Stingrays proved again, at their last home meet of the winter season, that they are a team to keep an eye on.
Like the long yard throwing arm of QB Aaron Rodgers, Kristin Burlew, Alex Fauver, Isabelle Magbie, Adrienne Stevens, Anna Gaskill, Shane Verespy and Elliot Thompson flew across the pool in the 200 freestyle. Katie McNally punted for the team when she took off time her 200 IM. In short bursts like Packers’ running back James Starks, Claire Pennell, Molly Rice, Dakota Pinney, Megan Smith, Samantha Mirra, Phelan Muller, Taylor Drinker, dropped considerable time in the 50 yard free. Molly Verespy’s 50 backstroke and Hannah Whalen’s and Kristin Clark’s 50 breaststrokes also shredded seconds from their personal bests.
Flying across the pool like the Packers’ wide receivers were butterfliers Quinton Andrews, Arianna Cioffi, and Rachael Drinker. A terrific 100 yard swim squad, composed of Nic Potter, Cody Stevens, Skylar Swan, Olivia Thayer, Kylie Bellows, Isabel Bushway, Amelia Larkin, Emma Lober, Jamie Mirra, Madeleine Morse, Corynne Wasyliko and Sofia Gulick advanced the Stingrays with numerous points and ribbons. Young swimmers Lily Jones and Harrison Morse pulled in first place ribbons in all of their swims. Adding to the team effort for the final touchdowns were Colin Pinney, John Sawyer, Ty Merrill, Alex Wasyliko, Lexus Westney and rookie Aleksander Antosiewicz.
