Get to know Springfield
by Kelly Stettner
With spring making an undeniable appearance, I’m on the lookout for the traditional signs: I’ve already got over a dozen robins in my backyard, but I’m still waiting with ‘bated breath for the forsythia to wake up. There is stubborn greenery under our eaves, poking hardy new shoots up to greet each sunrise. It’ll be interesting to see what that might be ~ perhaps dandelions?

Walk for Hope & Remembrance
Head for the Toonerville Trail recreational path in Springfield, VT on Saturday, May 7 for the 3rd Annual Walk for Hope & Remembrance. Brought to you by Share Southern Vermont Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support (SSV), the Walk seeks to provide families who have experienced the tragedy of miscarriage, stillbirth or the death of an infant the opportunity to remember and celebrate their “angel babies” publicly. More than 70 participants came out in the rain for the memorial service and three-mile walk. A community service event, last year’s participants generously raised nearly $900 for loss support. Since the Walk is free, hurting families can invite friends, family members, medical staff, and anyone who has been “part of their grief journey,” says SSV founding director Cara Tyrrell. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on May 7, with VT singer/songwriter Karen McFeeters performing her song Hope Begins in the Dark beginning at 10 a.m. The Walk begins soon after, followed by a complimentary lunch. Childcare is provided at the kid’s craft tent, and a bake sale offers cheesecake, carrot bread and pecan pie, all made by bereaved families in memory of their children. To learn more about the Walk and other SSV services and events, or to pre-register for the Walk, call (802) 226-7231, log on to www.sharesv.org or send an e-mail to sharesouthernvermont@gmail.com.
