Main Street Market is closing

Residents of North Springfield are shocked by the news of the imminent sudden closing of their village grocery store.

The store certainly appeared to be a popular place, with customers often finding it hard to get a parking spot around noontime when many workers from the North Springfield Industrial Park would breeze on over during their lunch break to purchase a hot lunch or tasty fresh made sandwich.

The owners, Brian Szad and Lois Patrie, bought the store in 2001. The building had been a food store since before most residents were born. The pair turned the establishment from a simple convenience store to a more varied offering of fresh cut meats, fresh produce, hot food bar and soon expanding to include a sandwich shop and deli in the back. This year they further expanded by offering breakfast too.

The business became a real neighborhood store where customers looked forward to finding an acquaintance or two inside to chat with, which the friendly owners and help also soon became. With such long hours and so much to offer for a small village store, one would sometimes wonder how long the owners could keep up the pace. It now seems they have had their fill of operating Main Street Market. A sign at the cash register says the store is closing down this Sunday, March 27, and thanking customers. They did not even wait for stock on the shelves to get low.
