Recount affirms school budget vote
SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield school district budget passed by a larger margin as a result of a recount Thursday night.
The recount was called after voters passed the $26.2 million school budget by a nine-vote margin on Town Meeting Day.
Seven hundred ninety-nine voted “Yes,” 790 voted “No.”
The new total is now a 14-vote margin of approval with 806 voting “Yes” and 792 voting “No,” according to Town Clerk Meredith Kelley.
The school budget represents a 2.7 percent increase from last year’s budget. It includes $2.2 million in debt service on the school’s bond issue to renovate the two elementary schools in town.
Capital projects included in the school budget include a new roof for the Springfield High School gymnasium and the last installment on improvements to the heating system at Riverside Middle School.
What a shame
ReplyDeleteReally? The above comment does not want better a education for our Springfield youth.
ReplyDeleteThrowing more money at a broken system is not the way to correct that problem with the system. It has nothing to do with "better education"
