Rite Aid pharmacy robbed at gunpoint

The Rite Aid pharmacy in the Springfield Shopping Plaza was the scene of an armed robbery Sunday morning.

An armed man entered the store at 9:58 a.m. His face was covered as he approached the pharmacy section at the back of the store. There he pulled out a gun, pointed it at staff and demanded certain drugs.

Springfield Police aren't revealing which medications he asked for, only that he left with a "quantity of drugs". For reasons unclear, at this time they are also withholding a description of the robber and other details of the crime.

Rite Aid is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robber.

Police are asking anyone who may have information about this incident to call Sgt. Greg Molgano or Detective Patrick Call at 885-2113.

  9. Springfield, Vermont is the most pathetic town in Vermont. I urge everyone to get out while you can. The place will bring you nowhere fast

  10. All of you are so quick to condemn, but are ANY of you that quick to help? I think not. But yet, most of you are the same people who call the PD for things that could and should be handled yourself, then are the FIRST to complain about how quickly they responded and how they handled the situation.

Did any of you READ the article? There is a statement that says "his face was covered". Have you been in Rite Aid recently to see the photo that our PD has to use for a lead? It could be ANYONE. Have you ever been a victim held at gunpoint trying to describe details of what happened to a responding officer? Again, I think NOT.

Do you think these guys are miracle workers or have insight that no one else does? No they don't. They took (obviously) a thankless job and will stand between you and harm's way regardless of what comments you post or how you feel about them. But our Police don't want to help, right? The next time you all cry "help", they'll still be there for you.

In response directly to the comment on 3/7 at 4:07 - "the department is to stupid, thats why they need help," It's "TOO stupid THAT'S why"

If you're going to bash someone for lack of intelligence, please make sure you have some of your own first.

I am DISGUSTED at these comments. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You are the poison, not the cure for our town. Just because we live in "small town Vermont" does NOT mean we are exempt from crime, but we are small and word travels fast. Very fast. As residents, it's our responsibility to report what we hear and what we see accurately AND in a timely manner. If you choose not to, then you CHOOSE to live with what happens in our town and have NO RIGHT to voice negative opinions.

If you think this is a "set up", then obviously you are FAR from a law abiding citizen and have something to fear. If you think Springfield is the most pathetic town in Vermont...do us a favor...get the hell out. I'm sure Winooski would love to have you!

  11. The above comments are an embarrassment to the other residents in our community.

Our job is to report accurately and timely what we hear, and this being a small Vermont town...news travels FAST, good or bad. So out of an estimated 9000 of us, someone heard something and is refusing to step forward. These actions enable this behavior in our town.

We should be stepping up as a community and assisting.

  12. In reading some of the above comments, I too am disgusted with some residents views on our Police Department!

These men are not magicians, are going on a lead for a suspect with NO description (we've all been in Rite Aid since and have seen the posters). The only way to assist them is by keeping our eyes and ears open and not tolerating this behavior in our town!

Closing your eyes and ears to any problem is allowing it to happen time and time again. Ignoring a problem does not make it go away.

If Springfield is so pathetic, then why do you still reside here? Instead of taking time to post negative abusive comments towards our Police Department, think of ways you can help!

Or is it just easier to write an "onion letter" rather than an "orchid letter"....

  13. Sounds like a Police Set Up?? Are you KIDDING ME?? Just ask the poor girl who was held at GUNPOINT how she feels about the "set up". The only way you would think like that is if you have something to be afraid of!

The most violent element in society is ignorance.

  14. These are the reasons why vermont has very few gun laws, freewill for all, screw common sence. Maybe if we all did the same, crime would go down. Whos going to rob a store at gun point if you know that any non fellon in the state can carry a firearm. I can tell you after this frightening week i wont go out with my family without mine. Why leave it up to the police if they are holding back info to stop these crimanals. Us vermonters have rights too......Dont tread on me

  16. If Cops Where smart? I think you mean were smart! It sounds like you are not much smarter then the cops.
