Former Chamber Executive Director Returns To The Springfield
By Joe Milliken
SPRINGFIELD - Former Springfield Chamber of Commerce executive director Carol Cole, who previously served as the Chamber Director from 1985 to 1998, recently returned as interim Director, beginning on April 4. Cole has been living in Kentucky for the last three years, after moving to Lexington to be closer to her daughter and family. However, she is now ready to return home to the Green Mountain State.
"Ironically, I had already been planning on returning home to Vermont," Cole said in a recent interview. "I was very surprised to get a call from the Chamber asking if I wanted to return. I guess you could call it fate."
Cole recently resigned from her position in Lexingotn as an Executive Assistant in the office of the Associate Dean for Research at the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture. Cole also has many years of experience in banking, real estate and small business ownership and of course, her previous position at the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
"It has been a very busy first week, but I am really excited to be back," Cole said. "Of course, it is going to take a little time to get re-acclimated again and familiar with the business community, but I have also gotten a lot of well-wishes from people and businesses I do already know."
Cole had resigned from the chamber position 13 years ago, mostly because personal reasons and passing of a family member. However, she is now very excited to be returning to Springfield and resuming her post as interim Chamber Director, taking the place of Patti Chafie, Recently, there has been some concern among the Board of Directors over a declining number of chamber members.
Upon her return Cole has already had a meeting with the Chamber Board members, and plans to meet with Chamber members next. "I've already sat down and had a good roundtable session with the Board, and now plan on meeting with individual members to get to know them better and get a better feel for the business community," Cole said.
"To me, the main purpose of the Chamber is to not only promote, but enhance the quality of life throughout the Springfield and Windsor County regions," Carol Cole stated in a recent interview. "This can be achieved through small business development, the expansion of small businesses and resource development."
