Springfield Rite-Aid Pharmacy robbed again
11:10 a.m.
By SUSAN SMALLHEER
SPRINGFIELD — For the fourth time in little more than a month, an armed robber has held up a Springfield business.
The Springfield Rite-Aid Pharmacy was held up Saturday afternoon by someone seeking drugs for the second time, and Jasinski’s Park Street Market was robbed Friday night by someone seeking cash, again for the second time, Springfield Police Officer Anthony Leonard said Sunday.
Jasinski’s Park Street Market had been robbed Apr. 3 as well, and the Rite-Aid Pharmacy had been robbed March 6.
Leonard said police are looking at obvious connections between the two pairs of armed robberies, but he declined to say whether they had any firm leads.
“Obviously, it’s something we are exploring,” he said. “Any help from the public would be greatly appreciated.”
Leonard said that the March 6 Rite-Aid armed robbery was the first of the four. Police still haven’t issued a description of the robber in that case.
When asked about the availability of in-house security video or photographs, Leonard said he couldn’t comment.
He said that police were not sure, based on the description, whether Saturday’s robber was a man or a woman. “There are assumptions it was a man, but we’re not sure,” he said.
In the case of the second Rite-Aid robbery, someone came into the store around 2 p.m., showed staff and customers a weapon and demanded drugs from the pharmacy staff. Police would only say that the robber made off with narcotics.
The robber was described as wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, jeans and sneakers.
Police said the robber left the store on foot.
As it did in the first robbery, Rite-Aid is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of the person responsible for the robbery, according to a press release from the Springfield Police Department.
He said that the second Park Street Market robbery took place sometime Friday evening.
In all cases, no one was hurt.
Anyone with information about the robbery should contact the Springfield Police Department at (802) 885-5133.
