Windsor County's long running Agricultural Fair scheduled

The Board of Directors of the Windsor County Agricultural Fair in announces that the fair has regrouped and is ready to reopen for 2011. This year will mark the 36th year that the “Best Little Fair in Vermont” will be held at Barlow’s Field on historic Eureka Road in Springfield.

The 2011 edition of the fair is being held on the weekend of July 9 and 10.

Historically the Windsor County Agricultural Fair moved around the county to such locations as the Billings Farm in Woodstock (1855-1932), the Hartland Fairgrounds, the Vermont State Farm in Windsor (1963-1970) and the Ascutney Ski area (1971-1972). The fair is glad to be able to continue to highlight Vermont’s agriculture in Windsor County.

Since its inception in the mid-1800s the fair has centered on all things agricultural and this year will be no exception. The fair is seeking to expand its agricultural and local industry exhibits and is inviting people to join in passing on their knowledge to help express pride in our Vermont farming heritage. Beekeeping or cheese-making; maple syrup production or antique farm machinery; the fair is interested in agricultural subjects old and new.

And of course, if it clucks, quacks, moos, whinnies or goes baaa you’ll be sure to find it at the Fair. The two-day schedule of events will include ox and pony pulls, truck and tractor exhibits and 4-H competitions. Visitors can see a variety of educational exhibits and demonstrations related to animal husbandry.

Children will love the petting zoo, clown show and variety of kiddie rides. Everyone will enjoy the live music, fabulous fair food and horse-drawn wagon rides. Those with a competitive streak will want to enter the baking contest sponsored by King Arthur Flour.

Fair hours will be Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For more information or if you are interested in being an exhibitor contact President Eric Johnson at (802) 952-4005.
