VTel Hurricane Irene Emergency Numbers
Saturday, 27 August 2011 07:41
Dear VTel Customer,
Hurricane Irene is causing consternation, and we want you to know what VTel is doing to maintain your data, Internet, and other telecommunication services. VTel's President, Justin Robinson, has formed a VTel Emergency Response Team. All VTel personnel are either at work, or ready to be called in, 24-hours-a-day, during Saturday/Sunday/Monday. Our buildings are secure, trucks fueled, repair equipment in every vehicle checked. Additional back-up generators are ready in case our triple-secure electric power, back-up batteries, and primary generators all fail.
One of our Internet hubs, at 60 Hudson Street, New York, is in the lower-Manhattan region evacuated because of possible flooding, but our New York Juniper routers are on the 9th floor, and we have a duplicated hub, with identical Juniper routers, at 1 Summer Street in downtown Boston.
As many of you know, we are upgrading our network with $116 million of new technology. New DWDM equipment, developed in part at Bell Labs and enabling 100-Gigabit data paths to customers, is scheduled for late-September install. This will become one of the fastest networks in the world, and Hurricane Irene shouldn't impact this.
If you experience any network problem please call (800) 279-4049. If you aren't getting the response you expect please call me at (802) 885-7000, my home (802) 885-6244, my cell (914) 572-7664, or e-mail mguite@vermontel.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Alternatively please call VTel's president, Justin Robinson, office (802) 885-7708, cell (802) 289-2108, or e-mail jmrobins@vermontel.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. With 370,000 people being told to evacuate New York City, and President Obama saying "all indications point to this being a historic hurricane" we are doing our best to prepare for the worst. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.
Michel Guite
They should re-locate to Springfield.
