Little nets a pair to lift Wasps past Cosmos

In Springfield, Woodstock defeated Springfield 5-2 in a Marble Valley League field hockey matchup Wednesday.
The Wasps came out strong, netting the first three goals of the half. Laura Boyd scored first, followed by Aria Robinson. Delaney Little scored next with 17:37 left in the first half, but Morgan Johnson answered for Springfield with 4:43 left.
A minute later, Little knocked in an insurance tally, allowing Woodstock to go into halftime with a 4-1 lead.
The score stayed the same until Jill Rushton scored for Springfield off a penalty stroke with 1:44 left in regulation. Camille Ertel added Woodstock’s final tally with just 32 seconds remaining.
Erin Chledak finished the game with 13 saves for Springfield, while Emma Aspbury made eight saves in the win.
Woodstock improves to 8-0, while Springfield will take a 4-6 record to Bellows Falls Friday.

In Springfield, Zach Brochu headed in a service by Andrew Laderoute on a corner kick three minutes into play and that goal stood up after 80 minutes of competitive soccer to give Rutland the victory over Springfield.
“They had the better of the play in the first half and we did in the second half,” Springfield coach Paul Kendall said. “But it was a windy night and we just couldn’t put one in.”
David Cohen stopped four shots to post the shutout, while Tim Hildreth made eight saves for the Cosmos.
Springfield dropped to 5-2 and will host Burr and Burton Tuesday.
