Thank you, Jennifer, for the heads up request. I can speak for myself only, but appreciate it when people choose to have a conversation or dialogue before making any comments at all. Anyone who wishes to speak with a school board member to get the facts and not the hearsay, may call me at 885-4203 or 376-9918. If I don't have the answer, I will get it for you.
ReplyDeleteI especially appreciate those who call with suggestions or out-of-the-box ideas. Remember, this is our community and if we pull together and not pull apart, it will be beneficial to all. Thanks, Jeanice Garfield
OH Janice- You are such a cougar!
DeleteHi Jeanice- Would you explain how 10,000 dollars went missing from the high school, went unaccounted and then explain how you justified replacing the missing money with this years budget money? How does that work exactly? 10k of missing money is considered a felony? Were the police called in for this?
DeleteWell...
ReplyDeleteI like to make comments before reading the article.
It makes the doughnuts taste better.
Not much here left, except doughnuts.
ahhh
heaven.
I hope they budgeted big for doughnuts
Are both the town & school having public hearings Tue night for budgets. This makes it tough on citizens that might want to attend both. I know it is too late to do anything this year, but something to consider.
ReplyDeleteFor those that attended and spoke up, they got to experience an absolute waste of time. The taxpaying citizens of Springfield should be outraged at the brush off.
ReplyDeleteInstead of the well justified, 10% cut recommendation, a 7.58% increase is proposed. Watch for the smoke and mirrors folks. Instead of costs being included as part of the town budget, they are being offered as a separate article. If history is any example, those articles ALWAYS pass as the majority of voters in Springfield DO NOT pay property tax!!!!!
For a change, the budget advisory board had some very capable, experienced business leaders. Leaders that know first hand how to recognize waste and the need to make hard decisions. To have ignored their well researched findings is an irresponsible insult. Be sure to pass on a sincere F-U to board members for their respect of taxpayers!
To Mr. Smoke and Mirrors or should I say Mr. Yesman...that 7.58% increase was what was left at the end of the budget workshop on Wednesday January 18th. That 7.58% increase is equivalent to a $596,797.00 increase over last years budget. In case you weren't actually at the meeting last night and your spouting off as usual, the final increase amounted to $196,797.00. This equals an addition of .032 cents on the current tax rate. Well below the 7.58% increase you speak of. As for the 10% cut recommendation your correct, you asked for a 10% cut in the operating budget, but added the 10% back into purchasing town equipment. New equipment is nice, but if you lay off the operators, what good is the equipment. Last wednesday your capable advisory board recommended a budget that would increase taxes by .11 cents per 100. The town elected board of selectman shaved that increase to .03 cents. What are you complaining about? Nothing was added to the Town budget as a seperate article on the warrant. As a matter of fact one item was removed. The Board opted not to place an article on the ballot for their token $500.00 a year salary. A savings of only $2500.00, but a savings nonetheless. What have you given back, besides false information and negativity. The special appropriations once again are the ones that have been on the ballot for years. Remember you are to make recommendations which you did. It is in the Select Boards hands to offer a budget palatable to the citizens with the least impact to services possible.

SPFLD NEWS - PLEASE PUBLISH A LINK TO THE TOWN BUDGET FOR ALL TO REVIEW AND COMMENT ON. Let's see the fidelity of the proposed budget and deal with the facts, line by line. More detailed information needs to reach the public as opposed to the selective information that is contained in the flimsy Rutland Herald or other newspaper articles.
