Springfield — Gallery at the VAULT in Springfield will host a unique art workshop with Robert Carsten. “It’s All About Light” will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 from 9:30 a.m.–4 p.m. The workshop will focus on achieving expressive surfaces, dynamic compositions, and beautiful color in your pastel paintings.
Attention will be given to achieving a strong, underlying abstract design and its relationship to the representational completion of the painting.
Class will emphasize obtaining dynamic sky effects: sunsets, storms, and night scenes. Participats will work from sketches and photos. Demonstrations, individual instruction and critiques are included All levels are welcome.
Carsten, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and was a scholar to the Academia di Belle Arti in Carrara, Italy. He is a board member and signature member of the Pastel Society of America and is a contributing writer to the Pastel Journal and The Artist's Magazine. His pastel paintings have been shown in many museums and galleries, are collected worldwide and have won many awards. His work is part of a selections exhibition at the Butler Institute of American Art and was featured in the Artist's Magazine, the Pastel Journal, and Strokes of Genius/the Best of Drawing as well as in Pure Color/the Best of Pastel, and American Art Review.
