My wife and I intend to opt out of the smart meters that Central Vermont Public Service is promoting.
It was dismaying to learn that we will be charged twice to read the two meters on our house. (One is the regular meter and the other is the off-peak hot water meter, an energy-saver in and of itself.)
These meters are inches apart, yet CVPS wants to charge us $240 per year to read the two meters. This is an outrage and is, in fact, a huge rate increase. I urge all consumers who are concerned about smart meters to contact the governor and state legislators.
The policy should be one of opting in, not opting out. In the end, the small consumer will foot the bill for this folly. People should be “Vermont Strong” on this issue.
