Recent activity of the Springfield Police Department.

Chief Johnston arrested Carl Johns, age 26, of Springfield on an outstanding warrant dating back to 2009. The warrant was issued for unpaid municipal fines due to the Town of Springfield in the amount of $2272.00 which were incurred for failure to properly restraint and register of a dog being kept by him. Johns was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility until the entirety of the fine is paid in it's entirety or possible adequate payment arrangements are made with the Judicial Bureau.

Brian Murphy, age 60, of Springfield was arrested after Cpl. Norton made contact with him in the Army Corp of Engineers trail head parking lot on Maple Street in North Springfield. While speaking with Brian he could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and noted that his eyes were bloodshot and watery. After doing poorly on Field Sobriety Tests, Brian was placed under arrest and transported to the Springfield Police Department for processing. At the SPD Brian submitted to an Evidentiary Breath Test which indicated a .192 BAC. Murphy is charged with DUI and False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer and will be arraigned in Windsor Superior Court, Criminal Division at a later date.

We do however urge residents that should they hear or see anything suspicious during the night, to immediately call the PD or 911. Anyone who may have information regarding the subject(s) involved with this activity, and who wish to remain anonymous, can use the tip page located at out website www.springfieldvtpd.org .

Special Attention Residents of the Town Farm Road Area: There were 2 reported break-ins (garage & shed) in your area Sunday night. Anyone with any information regarding these break-ins is urged to call the PD. It is undetermined at this time if anything was actually taken.

It is possible that the subject may have been looking for gas normally stored for accessories such as snowblowers, etc.

As the price of gas continues to climb, residents are encouraged to be vigilant for any similar suspicious activity and immediately report it to the PD.
