SPRINGFIELD, Vt. -
In Washington D.C. the Vietnam Memorial sits as a reminder about soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. But in Springfield today a half size replica brought full emotions to veterans of that war.
"I'm brought right back it's good to remember," Marine veteran Jack Cassidy said.
"I don't live there, I don't dwell there, but it's nice to go back in remember."
The Moving Wall has been traveling the country for more than 20 years but it had never made its way to Springfield before. Cassidy says he had seen the Vietnam Memorial in Washington before but never this replica, which he says does it full justice. He says there's at least six soldiers whose names are etched in the wall that he served with.
"It's a reminder for me of the total sacrifice how many people sacrificed," Cassidy said.
It was one man who had the idea to bring the memory of more than 58,000 names to Springfield.
"I had a lot of guys on that wall I knew," Event organizer and Vietnam veteran Ron Walker said.
"It hadn't been in Springfield or the east side of Vermont so I thought it was time and it worked out fantastic."
It really was an incredible display of patriotism from an entire community and country. Walker served in the famous "walking dead" Marine battalion and it took years for him to get the support he needed to bring the wall here. But the location isn't what was important.
"It's moving not from city to city but personal movement," Walker said
"It's the heart that moves."
