SPRINGFIELD - The Viet Nam Moving Wall will be in Springfield, VT. from July 12 to July 16, is half the size of the original wall located in Washington D.C.
Ron Walker, a former Marine now living in Baltimore, VT. said that when he mentioned bringing the wall to town, the veterans were excited about it.
“So, it just seemed the right thing to do,” Walker said. “I saw action in Viet Nam so I have an interest in the wall. I was in a foxhole with my buddy, Walter Singleton from Memphis, Tennessee. Walter took out an enemy gunner position, and unfortunately, he was hit and died due to his wounds.”
Walker said the wall that is coming to Springfield is the original wall, the one started in 1984. To bring the wall to Springfield, Walker had to make an application and then be approved.
“The application was originally approved for next year in September,” Walker said. “Then, they moved it up until this year. The Viet Nam Veterans Association No. 723 of Chester are sponsoring the wall with the Springfield Veterans Of Foreign Wars. Without them, this would not have happened.”
Walker said this would give the people who could not get to Washington, D.C. a chance to see the wall and maybe see the name of a family member or friend. The Wall will be on display at the Brown Football field at Riverside Park in Springfield on a 24-hour basis, and volunteers will guard The Wall on a 24/7 basis. If you are looking for the name of a family member or friend, someone will be able to assist you in finding the name.
The Dedication Ceremony will be at 12 noon on Saturday July 14 at Brown Memorial Field in Springfield. The program will include guest speakers Lt. Michael Shenna, Vietnam Veteran, readings by students, Nichole Patterson and Felicia Graham, and Special Guest Shirley Saniville whose husband’s name in on the wall.
Music will be by Erica Anderson, the VFW Post 771 will offer a gun salute, and a motorcycle salute and taps will be the final salute.
Walker is asking all interested persons to call him at 802-263-9472, and donations may be sent to Ronald Walker, 870 Baltimore Road, Baltimore, VT. 05147.
Went to see it and it is most sobering and humbling to see so many names. Lived through it and knew it was a horrible time. Anyone who glorifies war needs to see the wall.

ReplyDeletesometimes, I don't think it's random... I think it is everybody. I also wonder how they heard my thoughts when not spoken
