A 12 year old girl walking home from school on Monday experienced an unpleasant encounter with an adult stranger.
On 1-14-13 at approximately 2:35 p.m. on the sidewalk area of the urgent Care Center on River Street in Springfield a 12 year old female child was walking home from the Riverside Middle School and was asked to perform a sexual favor by an unknown male.
The Unknown male was in his twenties with light brown/reddish frizzy hair, approximately 5'10" in height with a thin build. The unknown male was wearing a dark blue coat (Puffy filled style just past the waist) with dark pants. The subject was not wearing glasses, hat or gloves.
The child could not understand everything the subject was saying as she said it sounded like gang slang. The male subject then walked behind the child not saying or doing anything else for approximately one tenth of a mile before the child crossed River Street and headed towards her home.
The male subject then kept walking towards the downtown Springfield area.
The Springfield School district issue an alert tone to all parents and the department is still following up other information in hopes to identify the male subject.
Anybody with information on the possible identity of this subject is asked to call the Springfield Police at 885-2113.
UPDATE 01/18/13: The subject indicated above has been identified. The officer in charge of the case is still actively investigating the actions that were involved in this event. As this is an active investigation specific details can not be disclosed. We will try to keep everyone informed as further developments take place.
