Published November 2, 2013 in the Rutland Herald NJ teen sentenced for crack possession By ERIC FRANCIS CORRESPONDENT WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A New Jersey teenager who was caught on a hidden camera stuffing a bag of crack cocaine under a table at the Springfield Police Department has been sentenced for possession. Rafael “Bang” Jaquez, 19, pleaded guilty this week to a felony count of possession of cocaine and was sentenced to serve up to five years in jail. As part of a plea deal, the state dropped two felony counts of sexual assault. A Springfield woman, who described herself to police as a recovering drug addict, reported that Jaquez and other members of the “Jersey Boys” drug gang had lured her to an apartment on Wall Street in Springfield, injected her with a narcotic and sexually assaulted her. Officers raided the apartment Easter Sunday after the woman escaped and contacted Springfield Police, who said they found Jaquez and another New Jersey teenager with a bag of .22-caliber ammunition on the table between them. Jaquez, of North Bergen, N.J., and the other teen, Daniel Morales, gave a series of fake names to investigators and pleaded guilty the next day to providing false information to police. Three days later, early on April 3, Jaquez and several other suspected drug dealers were stopped in a car on Union Street. Springfield Police Detective Allison Novasel wrote in her report that after Jaquez was alone in a police interview room a dispatcher watching on a video camera saw him “doing something suspicious with his hands under the table.” Police said they found a plastic baggie containing 4 grams of crack cocaine rocks jammed under the table top. Novasel said Jaquez was the only suspect in that interview room that morning.
