Springfield, VT - On the 100th anniversary of its first patient - March 4, 2014 - Springfield Hospital formally concluded its centennial celebrations which began on the 100th anniversary of the Hospital’s incorporation – August 3, 2013. With a theme of “Goodbye to the Past… Hello to the Future,” hospital staff and board members gathered with community members to dedicate a time capsule, recognize the oldest living people born at the Hospital, and enjoy a piece of birthday cake. Among the individuals honored included the daughter of the second baby ever born at the Hospital and the grand nephew of one of the Hospital’s founders. The chairperson of the Town of Springfield Board of Selectman read a proclamation honoring the Hospital. A representative from Senator Bernie Sanders read a statement from the Senator. Hospital CEO, Tim Ford, provided a look into the future that Springfield Hospital will face during its second century of caring. Larry Kraft, Director of Development for Springfield Hospital and Springfield Medical Care Systems (SMCS), dedicated the centennial time capsule “to all the people who have committed their time, energy, resources, and passion to making Springfield Hospital so vitally important to the communities it serves. We hope that the future generations who view the contents of the time capsule will find our efforts worthy.” ###
