Students participate in Community Service Day Jun 18, 2014 Students with Riverside Middle School in Springfield help wash the fire trucks during Community Service Day on June 5. SPRINGFIELD — On Thursday, June 5, Riverside Middle School held its annual Community Service Day. The school broke up into almost 30 small groups in order to spread out around town and help out. Groups partnered with lots of local organizations to make this day a huge success! Groups helped out at the Springfield Humane Society and Springfield Family Center, washed fire trucks at the Fire Department, did lots of clean up all over town with Springfield Parks and Recreation, performed music for residents at Springfield Health and Rehab, worked with the Black River Action Team to clean up part of the river and helped to mulch gardens with the Springfield Garden Club — and the list continues! Student groups also held a car wash, walk-a-thon and bake sale to benefit charities of their choice. Each year the students and staff at Riverside look forward to this day. Not only do the students get a chance to give back and thank the community of Springfield for supporting them but the students and staff get to have a lot of fun with great people all over town doing it!
