As the Boy Scouts of America faces mounting legal battles, the organization has opened multiple scout programs to females and, since June, 95 girls have joined the Cub Scout program in Vermont.

The annual Beyond the Unicorn Craft Festival at Riverside Middle School Saturday, Dec. 1 was bustling with crowds right from the start. New this year, RMS students occupied the fourth floor, offering child care and their own products and services.

Springfield Area Parent Child Center welcomes new executive director
Springfield Area Parent Child Center started their executive director search back in February of this year. The search committee consisted of several members from the SAPCC Board of Directors, a community member, and a consultant from another one of Vermont’s parent child centers. The expectations were set high, and after two searches, Margot Holmes was offered and accepted the position.

Fastest Kid in Town race hosts 81 competitors
The sixth annual Fastest Kid in Town Race was another huge success; A record 81 children ages 5-12 competed in the 100- and 200-yard races held at Riverside Middle School during the 36th annual Vermont Apple Festival over Columbus Day weekend.

Fuse lit for Tuesday’s “Firecracker Spectacular” at Devil’s Bowl Speedway
The fuse has officially been lit for the annual “Firecracker Spectacular” event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven. The Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint division has seen major growth, and 13 year-old Cody O’Brien of Springfield, Vt., leads the way.
