Governor wants examination of small hospitals’ ‘financial health’

After money troubles surfaced earlier this month at Vermont’s Springfield Hospital, Gov. Phil Scott wants more detailed financial information about similarly sized hospitals in Vermont.

Phil Scott's Republican challenger Keith Stern at Killarny Irish Pub in Ludlow watches Primary election results come in as members of the news media look on. Stern managed to garner more votes than the incumbent governor in 38 towns including Springfield. But state-wide, Scott emerged the top vote getter by a margin of 2 to 1.

Campaign 2018: A debate with the Republican candidates for governor

Incumbent Gov. Phil Scott and primary challenger Keith Stern debated their case today on Vermont Public Radio. Scott touted his firm stance against raising taxes and keeping state spending low. Stern said addressing Vermont's high cost of living would be his primary focus if elected. He has also criticized Scott's support for Vermont's new gun control laws.

Keith Stern calls on Gov. Phil Scott to walk back dubious economic claims

Republican gubernatorial candidate Keith Stern urges Gov. Phil Scott to walk back his dubious assertions about his Administration’s economic achievements in the past biennium.
“Phil’s campaign claims that his Administration lowered income taxes saving Vermonters $30 million. The Governor repeated this claim at the WCAX debate Tuesday, while touting his fiscal conservatism. The $30 million figure is a projected savings that includes a charitable donation tax credit. It cannot be claimed as an income tax cut,” Stern said.
