Eight-year-old boy honored for quick action that saved family 9 hrs ago 0 SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — In the early hours on Dec. 10, Carter Streeter was awake playing video games in the living room of his residence. Carter observed a reflection in his television, and he turned to see that there was a fire in the living room. Carter immediately went to his mother’s room and woke her and his brother up allowing everyone to evacuate the residence without harm. The neighboring apartments were also evacuated without incident. In response to Carter’s quick decision-making in getting to his mother, the Springfield Fire Department and Springfield Police Department came together to recognize him for his bravery and quick actions. The Union Street School had an assembly on Dec. 21 where the fire department and police were welcomed to the school to present Carter with a letter, a gift card and a shadow box for his actions. The letter was read to the assembly by Capt. Paul Stagner of the Springfield Fire Department. Det. Shaun Smith and Det. Robert Kelcey of the Springfield Police Department presented the shadow box to Carter. After the ceremony was complete, Carter was interviewed by WCAX, where he talked about the fire. Carter had pictures taken with his father Aaron Streeter, his mother Kayla Streeter, his brother Riley Streeter and members of the police and fire departments. Present for both agencies were, Capts. Paul Stagner and John Claflin from the Springfield Fire Department and Chief Johnston, Lt. Fountain, Detectives Smith and Kelcey and Officers Leonard and Neily from the Springfield Police Department. It will never be said enough, but the Springfield Police Department and Springfield Fire Department are very proud of Carter for being his family's hero!

So nice to see a positive write up about a young person.
ReplyDeleteAmen, we need to see more of these. There's way to much negativity these days.
DeleteI agree with that! Give more POSITIVE at Springfield VT, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a hero this little boy is....but did anyone else besides me, including the police, notice that there was a little 8 year old up in the "wee hours" of the morning. In this case, lucky for the family but
ReplyDeleteEarly hours.....the fire was at 7am. Read the article.
