SPRINGFIELD — Is it true? Summer is over and it's back to school for the kids. Some parents heave a sigh of relief that it's time for their children to get back into the routine of scheduled learning. But many of us fret over the cost of outfitting a child in back to school supplies.
For the past five years at Union Street School in Springfield, it has been "2 Sisters Ministry" to the rescue. Annually, Barbara and her sister contact Jan Rounds, school counselor, and receive their mission: They are given information on the likes, dreams and hopes of two children (typically a boy and a girl). Then the "2 sisters" personally handpick a backpack to fill with school essentials and more!
Miracle Lapree was a recipient this year. "I can't wait to show my grandmother these, she loves flip flops,” said Miracle. "That really helped out, I couldn't afford to buy school supplies for four,” said Heather Lapree, the mother of four children said.
The spirit of giving and caring for humanity is a constant at Union Street School!
