Published on Aug 14, 2014 The Spencer Hollow Schoolhouse is located at the junction of routes 143 and Spencer Hollow Road in Springfield, VT. Erected in the 1780’s. Primary school was held there until 1926. It is the oldest one room, brick schoolhouse still standing in Vermont. In 2012, The Spencer Hollow Schoolhouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places. From 1931 through 1970 the building was used by the “Spencer Hollow Club” as a general meeting place, and for the local 4H club until the 1970’s after which it was left abandoned until 2007. In 2007 a local group “ The Friends of the Spencer Hollow School” started restoration. Since that date through many hours of volunteer labor and help from local contractors much has been done in restoration including stabilization of the roof, scraping and painting all exterior and interior woodwork, replacing all broken window panes, restoring and replacing brick outside walls, clearing brush and landscaping school grounds. https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZsVNRKWYlVc
