Published October 3, 2014 in the Rutland Herald Wasps surge past Cosmos STAFF REPORT SPRINGFIELD — A goal by Kaitie McAllister gave Springfield the early lead on Thursday. It also woke up the Wasps. Woodstock dominated in shots 19-1 in the second half and put together a flurry of goals to beat the Cosmos 4-1 and improve to 8-1. Katie Miller scored seven minutes into the second half and with 13, 12 and nine minutes to play the Wasps added three more. “I think we just really needed to slow down and stop playing the pinball game,” said coach Greg LaBella. “Springfield came out hard and we were on our heels.” Anna Deiffenbach supplied the go-ahead goal with an assist from Miller and Emily Barnum and Annabell Lessard added goals, the latter assistsed by Lauren Kaija. Kaila Lemmer had three saves in the Woodstock net. Freshman Grace Morvan had 15 for the 1-10 Cosmos. Woodstock will visit Otter Valley on Saturday.
