Arlington 49, Springfield 38 — After a slow first half that saw Springfield down by 13, the Cosmos showed improvement in the final two quarters of their season-opener at Arlington on Thursday.
The Cosmos trailed 29-16 at the break and outscored Arlington 22-20 in the second half, but the first-half deficit was too much.
“We came out real slow tonight and they really took it to us,” said Springfield coach Tim MacDonnell. “We had a better effort in the second half and were able to execute more efficiently on both sides of the ball. We just didn’t get the stops we needed to tighten it up.”
Josh Rivers led the Cosmos with 12 points with Matt Graham adding 10.
Springfield fell to 0-1 on the season and travel to Bellows Falls on Tuesday for its next game.
