SPRINGFIELD — Union Street School in Springfield is proud to present this year’s mediation program. There are 70-plus fifth graders who are active as deputies, captains and peer mediators. Their prime objective is to reinforce that “all students belong and are listened to at Union Street School. This program is not punitive instead, listening, mediating and speaking skills (with clarifying questions) are role modeled and encouraged. Problems occur as part of everyday life, when we use mediation skills we are able to create solutions and have more fun. Garet Twombly’s oldest sister Ariel, was in the first mediation class in 2000. Garet is the third student in his family to join the program. Please join us in welcoming a wonderful group of fifth graders to a program that’s in its 15th year in Springfield.
