Published February 12, 2015 in the Rutland Herald McAllister breaks scoring record in Cosmos’ win By POODY WALSH Correspondent SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield and Windsor girls entered Wednesday night’s game with an eye on the standings as the season heads towards the end of the regular season, but all that took a back seat to a record-breaking performance by Springfield’s Chelsea McAllister. The senior sharpshooter not only had a quadruple double in Springfield’s 73-64 win but she also became the single season scoring leader. McAllister needed 27 points to break the school’s single season scoring mark of 1,609 set by Grant White in the Cosmos state championship season off 2008-09. She got 21 by the half and finished with 35. To show that she is not a one-way player she had 12 assists, 10 steals and 13 rebounds. She also was 9-for-10 from the foul line and made four baskets from beyond the arc. “I just found out.” she said about the quadruple double after the game. “I don’t know what to say,” she added, but agreed that it was one of the happiest days of her life. “I’m just so excited.” She broke the record when she drove the lane for her 27th and 28th points with 1:24 to go in the third quarter. “She’s a game changer,” said Windsor coach Bruce Mackay. “No doubt about that.” The sensational play of McAllister aside the game meant a lot to both teams. Windsor is 10-9 and entered Wednesday night’s game tied for seventh in Division III with Rivendell while WinooskI at 10-8 and Twin Valley at 11-8 are also in the hunt for one of the top eight places that guarantees a home game in the first round. Windsor, which came into the game with four straight wins, closes out the regular season with a tough game at Mill River on Friday. Springfield, 11-8, now appears to be in a good position to open the playoffs at home as they were a solid sixth at game time and finish up taking on Rivendell at home on Saturday. While Windsor was a nine-point loser in the game, it was also a game that they were just a spurt way from taking a little thunder away from the McAllister performance. Twice during the final minutes they had the lead cut to seven and had the ball with a chance to make it a five-point game with more than two minutes to play. But each team they failed to come up with the big basket. “You know I’m disappointed with the loss, but not with the effort,” said Mackay. “Our decision-making at the end wasn’t the best, but a game like this is a great learning tool. “ Perhaps lost in the excitement was big game for Windsor’s Ashleay Wilcox who had a 23 -point game. She is just a sophomore. Junior Maddy Morse added 14 and Haley Wood 10. Brooke Willey had 11 for Springfield.
What a great game last night. Congrats, Chelsea. Nice "W" over Windsor!
