Published February 20, 2015 in the Rutland Herald Slaters top Cosmos, finish regular season with 4-game win streak STAFF REPORT FAIR HAVEN — Once 2-11, the Fair Haven boys basketball team is looking like a team that could stir up some trouble in the Division II playoffs. The Slaters won their fourth straight game on Thursday night, 72-54 over Springfield and will go to the playoffs with a 7-13 mark. The current streak includes road victories at Windor, MSJ and Hartford. Windsor looks like the top seed in the Division III tourney and MSJ and Hartford are teams that will be involved in the D-II tourney. “We’re feeling good about ourselves,” said Slaters coach Bob Prenevost. “We’re getting our confidence back.” Fair Haven played seven Division I foes in its first 12 games and started the season as a young squad. They had a balanced scoring effort on Thursday, with Lucas Czarnecki and Darren Brown tossing in 13 points apiece and Dylan Ellis adding 11. Springfield, 3-17, ended the regular season with a 15-game losing streak. Ed Shambo led the Cosmos with 24 points and Josh Rivers added 18. The Slaters will find themselves in the middle of the pack when the tournament pairings are released on Monday, so they will not be facing an overpowering foe in the first round. “We like our chances in the first round,” Prenevost said. “We’ve been on a good stretch.”
